When we started planning our Hawaiian vacation, we chose Oahu for the museums and Maui for the beaches. Both of us wanted to see Pearl Harbor, as family members served in World War II.

  1. Pearl Harbor (even if you don’t get a timed entry for the entire place, it’s worth visiting!)
  2. Eat local foods, like seafood (mahi mahi was the “catch of the day” at most restaurants we visited) or pork.
  3. Catch at least part of a luau
  4. Try Leonard’s Malasadas
  5. Drive over to Lanikai Beach for sunrise – or stay the whole day
  6. Enjoy the beach!
  7. Spend time in the pool
  8. Visit the lagoon (basically on the property of the Hilton Hawaiian Village, but it’s public) for a zero-entry place for kids to play
  9. Sample the Hawaiian shave ice or pineapple sorbet
  10. Try fresh fruit (it’s so much better in Hawaii!)
  11. Take a drive around the island to see the different landscapes. Bonus points if you rent a Jeep so you can take the roof off!
  12. Attend a hula lesson
  13. Catch a sunset – the colors are breathtaking!
  14. Try a short hike
  15. Watch local surfers take on the waves
